Privacy Policy

Last Updated: December 16, 2023

Welcome to my website! Shelf Gamer is a deep dive into board gaming, which includes reviews of games and commentary on the hobby itself. To that end, your trust is the most important thing to me. This privacy policy outlines how I collect, use, and share your personal information (as defined below).

Comments

When you leave comments on this site, the following data is collected: the details you enter into the comments form itself, plus your IP address and your browser user agent which are used to help with spam detection.

Comments automatically incorporate the Gravatar service. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to Gravatar to see if you are using it. Learn more about Gravatar's privacy policy here.

When comments are approved, your profile picture will be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Cookies

When leaving a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website using cookies. This is optional and made available for your convenience so that you don't have to fill in your details every time you leave a comment. These cookies automatically expire after one year.

Cookies are used to understand and save your preferences for subsequent visits. Cookies are also used to compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction. All of this me helps to offer better site experiences in the future.

You can always disable cookies in your browser's settings. When cookies are disabled, some of this website's features may not function properly.

Analytics

I use Clicky Analytics to track and analyze website traffic. I don't have direct access to the information collected by Clicky Analytics apart from what's displayed in the Clicky Analytics dashboard/portal.

When you view pages on this website, Clicky Analytics may collect the following information to aggregate website traffic data:

  • URL & Title of pages viewed
  • URL & Title of links clicked on pages viewed
  • Referrer
  • User agent
  • Screen resolution
  • Language
  • X/Y coordinates of mouse events
  • Full IP address
  • Unique ID tracking cookie (randomly generated and does not identify who you are or reveal anything else about you)

Please read Clicky's Privacy Policy for more information on how your data is collected and used: clicky.com/terms/privacy.

Embedded content from other websites

Some articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, tweets, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you had visited those other websites.

Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interactions with that embedded content, including tracking your interactions with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Email subscriptions

When you subscribe to my email list, you may be asked to enter your name, email address, and/or interests. These details are used to personalize emails to you and limit the sending of emails that you may not be interested in.

If you're subscribed to my email list, the email list service may track the following details: a record of your IP address, the emails you open, and the links you click within those emails. This helps me to more accurately recommend content, including third-party offers and products that you might find valuable.

If you ever decide that you want to remove your data from my email list service, all you have to do is click the unsubscribe link in any of the emails you receive.

Who I share your data with

Your comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Any other personal information you provide, including and similar to your name and email address, will never be sold or rented to any third-party entities or individuals. Your personal information is solely used for internal purposes.

How long I retain your data

When you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. That allows this site to recognize and automatically approve any subsequent comments you make instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

More generally, any personal information you provide is retained indefinitely. If you want your personal information erased, you can make a request through my contact page. (This does not include any data that I'm obligated to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.)
